10:00 am - 11:00 am Pacific Time Boiler Control Strategies
Whether it is a single boiler or multiple boilers, the method of boiler control influences how effective the system can be. In this presentation we will look at boiler control strategies and answer the following questions:
- What needs to be controlled?
- How do we approach multiple water temperatures?
- BMS vs onboard control, can they co-exist?
- Multiple boiler installations, what is the best way to approach this?
- List the requirements for a boiler's onboard control.
- Describe how to control multiple water temperatures.
- Contrast the methods of controlling boilers when interfacing with BMS.

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Eastern Time
10:00 am - 11:00 am Pacific Time Boiler Water Quality
Hydronic system performance is highly dependent on the quality of the system fill water, both from an efficiency and longevity standpoint. You may have heard about VDI 2035 as a standard when it comes to water quality. In this presentation we will examine VDI 2035 and the quality standard it sets for hydronic water. In most applications municipal or well water on site is used to fill the hydronic system. Domestic water may be suitable to consume but due to pH, hardness or other compounds dissolved in the water, the water may have adverse effects on the system. We will look at how these compounds enter the water and the potential problems that dissolved compounds present to the system. Additionally, we will look at the various methods of removing these compounds either in the fill process or through chemical addition. Finally, the various common additives for hydronic systems will be presented.
Learning objectives:- Describe the water chemistry concern of hydronic system fill water to include: pH, Hardness, TDS (conductivity) and Oxygen.
- Explain the methods of correcting the above listed.
- Discuss the pros and cons of additives to a hydronic system to include: Protectants such as Fernox F1 and Rhomar PRO-TEK 922.
